BBQ’ed Pulled Pork

This is my own homemade tried and true recipe.  Because of this recipe, my mom has been trying pulled pork sandwiches everywhere she eats in order to see if any can compare.  She has not succeeded yet, which gives me a big boost to my ego.



  • 3lb Pork Roast
  • 1/4 Green Pepper – Diced
  • 1 Tomato – Diced and divided in half
  • 1/2 Sweet Onion – Diced
  • 1 sm can Green Chilies (Diced / Fire Roasted) divide in half
  • 2 Celery Stalks – Diced
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 2 Garlic Cloves Finely diced or pressed thru a garlic press
  • Water
  • Garlic Powder
  • Seasoning Salt
  • Steak Spice
  • 1/3 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 Tblsp Honey
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce
  • 2 shots of Whiskey ( I use Black Velvet)
  • A bottle of Hickory BBQ Sauce


  1. Put Green Pepper’s, 1/2 of Tomatoes, Onion, 1/2 of the Chilies, Celery, Bay Leaf, and Garlic in bottom of Crock Pot
  2. Place Pork Roast over the top of Veggie mix
  3. Add water to 1/2 way up the Roast
  4. Coat top of Roast with Garlic Powder, Seasoning Salt, and Steak Spice
  5. Cook on high for 6 hrs
  6. After Pork is done, drain most of the liquid
  7. Take a Fork and start shredding the pork apart
  8. Add Brown Sugar, Honey, Soy Sauce, Whiskey and 1/3 cup BBQ Sauce
  9. Cook on low about 4 more hrs, stirring occasionally
  10. When done, add more BBQ sauce to taste and serve.
